Rub a dub dub...Three in a tub

Ethan and Toddy got into the Vaseline and rubbed it all over their hair today...
I am not sure how to get it out...
Three washes later and it is just as greasy...

On the bright side it was so cute having them all in the tub together...
Just had to snap a few photos...
Oh the cuteness!

Robot Day

Ethan picked Robot day for his February "special me" day at school
In light of this day coming up as well as trying to think up a family activity
I came up with the idea of making Robots with recycle materials and stuff around the house...
Both Ethan and Todd thought this was a perfect idea...
Soon Nate was all into it also...
I helped Ethan with the Robot on the left and
Nathan did the one on the right with a little help from Toddy...
We actually had a lot of fun being creative with the kids.

We brought the Robots to Ethan's school on his "special me" day this past Thursday...
Ethan said the teachers and kids really liked his robots and
Ethan got to tell them all about how we made them...
He named one Dino and I can't remember the other name...I will have to ask him

I asked...This one is named Dino

Meet "Billy"

Mommy and Ethan Date Night

I have been anxiously waiting for the right time to ask Ethan out on a mommy-son date...
I asked him earlier this week and he said "sure" right away...
I built up some anticipation planning the date with him...
I had butterflies of excitement awaiting our date night which was this past Tuesday...
After eating dinner with the family Ethan and I headed up to Masonville mall...
I bought tickets to Sponge Bob Square Pants.
We had some time to hang out before the movie started...
So we checked out the video game machines in the theater,
rode the exculators up and down, up and down, up and down and up and down...
We got lots of treats for the movie...pop, chips, ice cream and a kinder egg...
Ethan also got a quarter to put in one of those candy machines in the mall...
We held hands, talked, laughed and
Ethan danced and made funny sounds and faces at people in the mall...
He got me laughing pretty darn good!
We had a great time and I couldn't of asked for a better date...
This boy will be prepared to take a lady out on a proper date one day
and I am honored to be the one to teach him how to do this!
I love you Ethan...

Nate took a few pictures right before we left on our date below

Toddy was not too happy to not be joining us...
His turn will be coming up soon!
Toddy gives such great kisses...I am one lucky girl!

My little man on our first Mommy-Ethan date!
Here is to many more in the future!

Toddy Your Three

Toddy your three...
How can this be...

In some ways you still seem like a baby to me...
In other ways you have really started to grow up...

You are as cute as they come…
A voice deep and raspy
Smile mischievous
Honey blond hair with the cutest curls ever
(I want to leave your hair long forever by the way)
You have huge glorious eyes that I describe as hazel with blue rims...
They twinkle when you smile.
Your body is thinning out and your head is big and round
My heart just melts when I look at you because you are just so dang adorable.

To describe you over the past little while I would use words like:
Busy, active, rambunctious, mischievous, defiant, silly, crazy...
But you also have this funny, cute, innocent, sweet,
tender, empathetic and loving side...
I have said more than once that I have met my match with you...
I do not say this lightly and I say this in the nicest way!
My mom tells me that you are a splitting image of moi when I was 2-3 years old
So I guess this is what they call Karma…
The truth is I wouldn’t change a thing…

One of my favorite times to see you is first thing in the morning
with your squishy pillow face and big poufy hair...
You like to bounce into my room for morning time cuddles...
I am often much too tired to face getting up...
(Between night feedings, coughs and colds you boys
have been keeping me on my toes through the night lately)
Through my deep exhaustion I somehow still have this strong sense of joy
to have you or your brothers waking me up.
It feels so tender and pure to have your sweet little body
curled up next to mine to welcome in the morning...
I try so hard to treasure these moments...
(Even when I am crazy tired)
It’s a treat to hear your sweet little voice saying hi to me in the morning...
You love to say “I love you” or “you are my best friend mom”
Even though within minutes you are saying "can we go downstairs"
I always ask for a few more minutes...
Which turns into a few more after that.
You are patient with me in the morning (well kind of)...
Thanks for that

To be honest your toddler stage has been really challenging at times...
As mentioned already you are quite the “cheeky” monkey
I never knew what feeling bonkers was until you turned two…
In the course of a day I go back and forth experiencing intense feelings of
joy, frustration, happiness, frustration, empathy, frustration, love, exhaustion and frustration…
At times I feel defeated,
Other times I feel immense joy at your perfect little being.

You drive me “insane” because I can't leave you for a second…
You always find a way to get into “something”…
You are oh so clever
No matter what lengths I take to childproof...
I am always amazed at how that “something” leads to such huge messes...
For example you love to open the fridge…
Not because you’re hungry
Just to poke holes in the eggs,
spill the milk or take lids off of containers.
I often catch you licking and sucking the top of ketchup and dressing containers.
Yucky I say…You laugh and run off…
You do this just for fun or to drive me insane…I have yet to figure this out yet
Once you are out of my sight and it becomes quiet in the house
I know you are into something
I call your name…No response
Next I hear the scamper of your feet followed by hysterical laughing
You always go in the living room and hide behind the couch just waiting to be caught.
During these moments you usually leave a trail of spillage
of whatever food you got your hands on.
In these moments I have learned it is easier not to chase after you
as this leads to a much larger mess.
Instead I try really hard to calmly with whatever patience I can muster up
talk to you and convince you to come out from behind the couch
and help me clean up the mess.

You have spilled full bags of milk on my floors
(including the rug in my living room)...
You constantly climb on my counters and turn on taps to
"wash your hands"…
Somehow most of the water ends up all over your clothing and the floor…
You love to pump the soap by putting squirt after squirt in your hands and in the sink and sometimes for good measure you will rub it on the walls and mirror...
You eat my chap stick and destroy my makeup,
Markers and crayons are often chewed to bits
You have poured out multiple tubs of laundry detergent
You love the toilet and can be found playing in the water
and splashing it all over the place...
The other day you actually dunked your head in the toilet to make Ethan laugh.
Until recently you have had no desire to go pee or poop in the toilet.
(however I must say you have been doing better over the past couple of weeks)...
Your preference is to wear a diaper and you seem to quite enjoy giving me a hard time putting it on you…It’s even worse trying to dress you.
Sitting still is sometimes always hard for you...
If you don't get your way you are very stubborn...

Just the other day we were walking from a playgroup to our van
you were tired and didn't want to hold my hand
(we were on a busy road and it was cold and snowy out)...
I was already struggling to hold Colton in the carseat, a big diaper bag and a baby wrap when you decided to go limp and scream and yell for me to let go of your hand...
You would not stop…I paused and talked calmly to you…
I gave you some time to have your melt down…
By this time Ethan was starting to act up and we were all freezing…
So I ended up having to drag then carry you somehow to the car...
Oh how I love these moments with you my son (wink, wink)!

On your birthday we said goodbye to your soo soos...
I have to say I feel bad taking them away...
I have been trying on and off for the past 6 months but you just love them...
However your teeth are starting to push out a bit and
I don't want that to be an issue for you in the future.
You are doing really well with this challenge…
Sometimes you will take Coltons…
But you will usually give it back when asked…
I am sticking to my guns this time so you can
thank me for your beautiful teeth one day.
You love your babas (bottles)…
I give you one or two a day...
You are a picky eater so seeing some milk go down your belly is a good thing…

You love Ethan but you also bicker with him often…
This drives me crazy…
You copy his every move and call him your best friend...
You love to kiss and play with Colton
Your favorite game to play with him is chase…It is so cute to hear the two of you giggling as he army crawls his way around the house chasing you…
I love that you have two brothers to love and hang out with…
My hope is that you will all be best friends and look out for each other.

You are such a funny, kind hearted little person who loves to laugh
You get your daddy and I going pretty good sometimes
You never leave us without a fair share of hugs and kisses...
Above all you are so dang innocent and cute that no matter how you act
we can't stay frustrated with you long because when we look at your
beautiful little face and dear eyes you win us over every time.

I love to just watch you
You make me laugh because you are so busy and
you do and say some funny things...
You love to do the opposite of what we ask...
I know it is a stage and I know it will pass…
Most of the time I can see the humor in it.
You have no problems making messes...
I have caught you on more than one occasion drinking water from puddles,
and dipping your face in the muddy ones…Not sure why
You have poured three full tubs of laundry soap out on the floor to date
You like to draw on yourself, jump in mud, get wet, put bowls on your head after eating from them (and say look at my hat moma)
You are always the dirtiest looking kid on our street…
Hence my nickname for you...”My little orphan”...
But it just suits you and it makes you that much cuter
Dirty little kids are happy kids!!

Over the past little while some of your favorite things are:
-playing with the train table
-dinosaurs, cars, planes and jets
-tool box (you love to fix things)
-flying the helicopter with dad
-superman rides and the lion game
-playing outside with your bikes
-hide and seek
-going to McDonalds with Aunty Shayna
-The beach and cottage, storybook gardens, the park, childreach, Adventures on Wonderland, birthday parties and kidscape
-Favorite books – You are not big into reading but recently  you have ask me to read “The paper bag princess &I have to go” (and stayed still for it!!!)
-Favorite shows/movies – Toopy and Bino, Jurasic Park, Frozen, Polar Express, Mosters, Letter Factory

Every day you will tell me "I love you so so much"; "your awesome"; "your cute"
Your smile can light up a room
Baby I love you so much and my heart is so happy that you want me…
At night when you wake it is me you call for
When you fall and hurt yourself it is me you cry for
And when you just need a cuddle it is me you ask for
I am one lucky girl

I am learning so much alongside you on our parent child journey
You are living without an ego and that helps me to find my true essence
Through parenting it has sparked in me a need to venture on a deep soul searching journey that has become transformational...

I thought I knew it all...Wow was I ever wrong...

Thank you for being my teacher

I am so lucky to be your mommy!

New Years Day

This year our neighbors had an around the world party
We started in

Italy

Then to Japan

Next stop France

Then India

And last but not least New Zealand

We picked India...
Here is a few more pictures of how we transformed
our house to have the feel of India...
We also had music playing in the background!

It was a lot of fun hanging out with our friends and enjoying some great food...
A perfect way to spend Jan 1st...We started at 1:00 and spent an hour in each Country!
We will be doing this again next year!

To my boys future mother in laws - I pray for you, can you pray for me!

Below are words from a mom named "Em" (I got it off of her family blog "Teach me to braid")...Her writing is beautiful...I found her words so meaningful to me that I just had to keep them close...So they are below...Wow she speaks from my heart. Thanks Em for writing this piece.

"If my child marries yours...

I just want you to know that I'm praying for you.

When I'm awake at night - feeding babies, burping babies, giving tylenol to a feverish toddler, covering up chilly toes, tucking green monkeys under little arms - I think of you. Because chances are, you're awake too, doing the same sorts of things. Taking care of tiny children that I already love because they will someday hold the hearts that are beating against my chest tonight.

I'm praying that you'll stand firm against the pressures to overcommit and hyper-schedule, that you'll shut out the voices that tell you you're not doing enough, that your kids aren't doing enough.

I'm praying you'll have the wisdom to know when to pick that crying baby up out of her crib and when to just sit outside her door, your fingertips pressed to the wood, willing her to feel your love and comfort and just finally fall asleep.

I'm praying that you will take those children to church...that the mothers and fathers of our future grandchildren will grow up knowing what it means to worship, even when that means missing out-of-town basketball tournaments and marathon sleepovers.

I'm praying that your love for and commitment to your spouse will swell with each year you're together, that you will grow to love the legacy you are creating just as much as you adore the person you're creating it with.

I'm praying that you take lots of pictures so that I can see where our grandchildren got their sticky-out ears and their mischievous grins.

I'm praying that Jesus will give you just enough strength each day to keep you from losing it but not so much that you forget Who that strength comes from.

I'm praying that we will be friends.

Will you pray those things for me too?

I don't really pray for your child. Maybe I should. My husband does that, and I think it's wonderful. But chances are, your child is just fine. And chances are, a lot of the time, you aren't. Chances are, if you're anything like me, you're very tired. And some days, you get so discouraged. Sometimes, your temper erupts, your selfishness wins, and your smile is fake. Sometimes you forget to change the baby's diaper, to spend time being silly with your toddler, to really see your spouse. So it's you I am praying for right now, in the still darkness, with this baby fist pressed up under my chin and this sweet, sleepy breath on my ear. May you feel these prayers when you need them the most.

We are in this together, you and I. We are building something beautiful with each onesie folded, each invisible owie kissed, each story read.

You don't know how much it means to me that you give your children everything you have every single day...even on days when it's not much at all. Because your child will fall asleep next to mine for fifty-some years. Your child will be the one holding my child's hand when our first grandchild is born. And when they face the darkest days of their lives, it will be your child and mine, facing into the struggle together.

I'm pretty sure that our longest days - the ones that are brim-full with hair-pulling moments, impossible messes, and toddler meltdowns - those are the days that we are fashioning hearts. And someday, one of the hearts I'm helping create will crash into one of your love-crafted hearts, and what spills out as a result of that jolt...it's kind of up to us. I promise to tend to these hearts with utmost care, to plant in them humility and peace and selflessness...especially selflessness. I promise to plant Jesus seeds in these hearts every chance I get. And I promise to keep praying for you.

I'm praying that you will hug your boy tight when he's sad or lonely or scared. Because someday, my girl - all grown beautiful with babies of her own - will be sad or lonely or scared. And he'll need to know how to hold her. Teach him.

And let your daughters hear you speak righteous words that bring life and hope. Because someday, my sons will be worn and weary, and the words you're placing in your daughters' minds today just might become the balm to my sons' souls.

I'm doing my best to do the same. And sometimes...much of the time...I fail. Pray for me too.

Someday we will sit on opposite sides of the aisle...all fancy and with gobs of tissues tucked into our fists. We'll watch our silly, sticky, sweet babies somehow transform into brides and grooms and make the same promises to one another that we ourselves have kept...against all odds and only by His grace. And we will watch these children create families of their own with the ingredients we have given them. The ingredients we are slipping into their souls today.

But until then, I'm sitting here in the dark with babies in my arms.

And I'm praying for you."

Christmas Day 2014

Ethan woke first at 7am (a normal time for him to wake up)...
He actually remembered it was Christmas morning and was anxious to go downstairs...
We went in to wake up Toddy and Colton also woke up with all the hustle and bustle...
I would have to say that this was the first Christmas that Ethan "really got it"...
The look on his face was priceless...
He could not get over all the loot .
Christmas morning feels a lot more like it use to when I was a kid again...
Just love seeing my little boys excited and having fun with their new toys.

Aunty Shayna came over around 7:30am...
She is such a good aunty to my kidos...
She doesn't want to miss anything!

Colton in good spirits after eating even though he has a terrible cough and cold

My mom always got a picture of the loot under the tree...
As a kid I remember arranging all the presents under the tree for my mom to take a picture...
I will carry on this tradition...A great way to see what everyone got!

Colton loves his snuggles with daddy...The warmth puts him right out!

We headed over to my mom and dads around 10am for bruch and more Christmas fun

My parents Christmas tree...
My mom does such a beautiful job decorating her house for Christmas

Christmas hat for Colton

After opening presents and having brunch we were lazy around the house in our PJ's sleeping, watching movies and playing with toys...My parents host Christmas dinner so all my dad's side of the family were over later that day...Joe wasn't there this year with the kids so we missed them this year.  It was good to catch up with the extended family...

Ethan with his cousin Lucus

We had a beautiful Christmas this year!
