Toddy your ONE

Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday Dear Toddy
Happy Birthday to You

Dear Toddy,
Just over one year ago your father and I received a precious gift, one that has made our dreams come true. You came right on your due date (I kind of thought you would) and I just couldn’t wait to meet you and see your beautiful little body.  If I’m being completely honest, I was a little nervous about the change…I was just so use to it just being your dad, Ethan and I and it felt a little strange that things were going to change…Change always freaks me out a bit but I have to say that this change was such a blessing to our family and you have added so much love to my heart and our family. I feel silly now that I was nervous about the change...I didn't realize how much my heart could love and that it is not that I took any love away from your daddy or Ethan when you came...My heart only grew.
You were 7 Ibs right on and the first time I saw you on my chest I thought you were so tiny…That didn’t last long as your cheeks and thighs filled out very quickly…You were and still are a good little feeder (you love milkies). You came out quick (Thanks for that)…I remember holding you in the hospital and having some time alone after dad left to get a bit of sleep…You only wanted to be in my arms…So we cuddled all morning and into the afternoon…I remember feeling total bliss knowing that you were mine…I was so happy to know that you were a healthy little man.  I couldn’t stop looking at you and since that day I often stare at you in total amazement at how perfect you are.  It kills me how dang cute you are.
I love to see you and Ethan playing and laughing together. I just know you two are going to be best buds. I am so happy that your dad and I were able to have you two close together so you will have a forever best friend to go through this world with. My hope is that you two will always be really close and always have each other’s back. It is the sweetest sight to watch you and Ethan interact…He loves you so much and it is so heartwarming to see you already following you big brother around.  The other day I watch as you chased Ethan in a circle on the floor just giggling your heads off…Daddy and I just watch on the couch with big smiles on our faces. The simple things you do absolutely amaze us. It is exciting to know this is only the start of such a special relationship we and your brother will have with you.
You have big beautiful blue-hazel eyes (They recently change color)…Your eyes sparkle and provide a peek into your pure, gentle soul. I named you Todd Joseph after your daddy’s brother who passed away in a car accident…I met him as a little girl…He was a very good man and we know he will be watching over you while you go through this life.  Your middle name Joseph is after my older brother (He was named after my great uncle Joseph who died in World War 2)…Your uncle Joe is a wonderful man who I truly look up to and know that he will always be there for you.

This past year has been one joyful, exhausting, funny and amazing year of your mommy’s and daddy’s life. We are so thankful for you. We love your happy personality and the way you smile at us with your wide open mouth. We love knowing we can get a giggle out of you by chasing you or swinging you around. I think it is so funny that you get a kick out of poking my face and sticking your finger in my nose, mouth and eyes when I am feeding you. Below I have listed some things about you:

-You started standing at 7 months and walking at 8 months.
-You love to be held, as a baby I often carried you in a baby carrier around the house
-For the longest time you hated your car seat...Now that we have switched to a front facing seat you are a little happier.
-You love your soothie soosoo...But you often will throw it in the car and at home...Dad and I spend a lot of time looking for Soo Soo's.
-Your smile is contagious...You are a happy baby
-You love your baths,
-you love to tear apart Ethan's train tracks.
-You never liked mushy baby food...I basically went right to solid foods
-You love to keep mommy up at night...Your getting a little better but still keep me on my toes.
-You come alive at 10pm
-You are starting to be more vocal (da da da, mammama, babababa)
-You know your name and will turn when I say it
-You started to imitate us a few months ago...You will clap your hands and dance
-You love the dogs and often will attack poor miles with your pincher's...He is so good to you.
-You transitioned really well to your crib at 8 months...We slept together for the first 8 months...One day thank your dad for this.
-You are a mommy's boy (I love it!)

I can’t get enough of your baby bear hugs and slow kisses that you give me every morning and throughout the day. I hope you never lose the ability to show affection so boundlessly. The way your eyes light up when you see me is a feeling difficult to describe…It instantly perks up my energy and happiness in this world.  Your innocence and the love that you show everyone in this family is a blessing that I will never take for granted.

Your wonder and awe of everything around you never ceases to amaze me. Your little personally is so curious and when you are awake you just soak up the world around you…You are so interested in  everything…You especially love objects with lights and noises. You love to open our dvd cabinet and the drawer under the stove...The only things not safety locked...If the stair gate is left open you will bee line to the stairs and start climbing...Sometimes you wait for me to come running then you giggle and start moving...If the bathroom door is left open you always know and head as quick as you can to the toilet or the garbage or the toilet paper roll...You keep me running son...But I am glad because this means you are using your smart little mind. You are continuously teaching me something new and wonderful. Every day when I wake up and see your beautiful face I am inspired to become a better mom and a better person.

Today know that your life has made such a profound change in our lives that is one hundred trillion times to the better. You make the world a better place just because there is Todd Joseph Hofstetter living on it. I can only imagine what amazing things you will do and accomplish in the future, because you are already amazing and I could not be more proud of you.

Toddy I love you forever and always and your dad and I live our days now with you and your brother at the forefront. We only want the very best for you and we will always be here to be your rock, you friend, you supporter and your first love… I’m so glad God chose you for our family, that he picked you just as you are and blessed us with your little life. You and your brother are perfect for your dad and I.

P.S. I will try really hard to not be one of those over bearing moms...Just promise me you will not grow up too quickly (lol)!!

Love you so much baby boy,

Mommy & Daddy

A year ago today...

A year ago today I looked slightly different...

A year ago today I was really pregnant...
Below is the post I did just before I went into labour with Toddy a year ago...
I was feeling many different emotions...
I can still remember vividly writing this post...
I just cut and pasted the post below...

"I wanted to do a quick post prior to going to sleep because there is a chance our baby will be coming very soon! I had a midwife apt today and I am 3-4cm dilated, 75% effaced and she stretched me so I am quite crampy right now and my contractions are starting to feel different. Tomorrow is my actual due date so baby may be coming anytime! The waiting game is on!! Nate and I are really excited to meet our brand new little guy! I think Ethan is too...Today when I went into his bedroom in the morning I asked him "where is the baby?...Can you give baby a kiss!" Ethan smiled, lifted my shirt and gave my belly the cutest little smooch! Ethan is going to be such an awesome big brother. It is strange because part of me was slightly sad cuddling with Ethan at bedtime tonight thinking that this may be the last time it is just him and I! I know that sounds a little silly but I always struggle a bit with change...Change is exciting but it also represents the passage of time which is sometimes overwhelming. Our threesome is going to be expanding so soon and even though things will change I know it will be for the better and will add so much happiness to our lives.
Thoughts I have right now:

- Need to pack a bag for the hospital
-Am I starting labor????
-I should get some sleep
-I wonder what our new baby is going to look like?
-I can't wait to see what Ethan thinks of the baby?
-Will I make it to the hospital!!! (I had a super fast labor with Ethan...Had a dream this week that Nathan had to deliver the baby at home!!! Yikes!)
-I am sooooo glad I made it past the holiday season and that my baby will have a January birthday!
-I love my family and feel very blessed to have Ethan and soon to be baby #2
-I hope labor and delivery isn't as painful as the first time
-I pray that our baby is healthy and arrives safely

Well if it doesn't happen tonight I might have a chance to post some more thoughts! I just want to always remember how happy and excited I am feeling about the arrival of our second baby! Ethan has been the greatest joy to Nathan and I and we are thrilled and honored to be parents to another little man!"

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IT HAS ALREADY BEEN A YEAR...

But at the same time I can't believe that Toddy has only been with us for a year.  Today while taking some pictures of Toddy I found a very pregnant picture of me just moments before I went into labour...For fun I got Nate to snap the same shot a year later...Our bodies are amazing...It is crazy to think that my belly was once that large...Thank goodness that our skin has memory...

Tomorrow I plan to post a good update on Toddy...He has grown a lot in the last year...We are very proud of him and enjoy watching him learn and discover the world around him...He is amazing...

Nate and I just love our little Toddy...He makes our life so joyful and his smile is so pure it just lights up my heart...It is funny to think that a year ago today I didn't know this amazing little spirit...My life has forever been changed by Toddy's presence and I could not be more happy...I am a fortunate mommy and feel very blessed.

LOVE YOU FOREVER TODDY

Hofstetter Christmas

On December 23rd we hosted the Hofstetter Family Christmas
It was tight but we were able to fit everyone into our little place.
We had a ton of food...
Thanks to Jorge for deep frying the turkey and wings,
and thanks to the rest of the fam for bringing yummy dishes...
Made it easier on me for sure.

Below is a bunch of pictures taken from that night.

Ethan and Todd were so spoiled,
We are blessed to have family who truly care for and love our boys!

Our New Years Resolution

So Nate and I have a New Years Resolution that we are excited about

3 times a week...
I am committed and motivated for this new adventure
-I will let you know how it goes-

Christmas Day 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
(I will write more about our New Years later...Just catching up on Christmas)

This year we decided to sleep at our house Christmas eve
to ensure we all got some quality sleep...
I would like to say this happened but it sure didn't...
Todd and Ethan have colds and therefore
if I was not up with one I was up with the other.

Our plan was to get over to my parents bright and early in the morning...
Before leaving for my parents we noticed that
Santa stopped by our house and put a toy back hoe
and kinder surprise in Ethan's stocking...
Ethan was very interested in the chocolate and wasn't really
interested in the mini computer that Santa also left for him...
He only wanted the chocolate...
To avoid a melt down he got the chocolate!

We managed to get over to my parents by 8:30am to a very anxious Jessica and Markus...
They were waiting for us and very ready to get at the stockings and presents...
"Santa came, he really came" was what I heard as I entered my parents home!
Santa as per usual filled stockings for our family at my parents...
How thoughtful!
Needless to say our family got spoiled by Santa!

This year instead of doing a huge brunch we had a low key one...
Help yourself to cereal, muffins, eggs and fruit...
Low key is much better now with all the kids around...
I took a nap with Ethan after brunch, then with Todd...
Nate went home to take the dogs to RMC for a run around while
the rest of the family napped, watched movies and played with toys...
Markus got a remote control helicopter from his dad
that he and his dad went outside to play with.

My grandma was over by 3ish and our other company started to arrive by 4:30ish...
We always have Christmas dinner and spend the evening on the 25th
with my dad's side of the family...This year we had 25 people!
I don't get a chance to see my aunts, uncles and cousins as much anymore,
so I really look forward to catching up with everyone...
A full house just how it should be!

Christmas festivities are so much different now with 2 kids...
It didn't help that my children are under the weather...
It feels like they have been sick all winter...
Toddy was just not himself with all the people around...
He wouldn't let me put him down nor would he go to anyone else...
So I didn't really get a chance to sit down for Christmas dinner...
But that is OK because I am a mom and that comes with the territory...

The evening always ends with the annual
Boland Family Yuker Tournament...
We are hard core yuker players...
I think I learned to play when I was like 7 years old...
I have to say the prizes at Christmas are pretty generous
thanks to my uncles and dad...
This year I didn't do so well but I got awarded the honest player award
(It's basically a pity award for one of the last place finishers)...
I was more than happy to accept it as it was a $20 movie card!

Although we decorated our house on Nov 2, and soaked up all that Christmas has to offer,
it still seemed like it went by in a flash...
I have to say I really enjoyed this particular Christmas...
I loved having Nate off which allowed us to have so much family time,
I loved watching Christmas movies this year,
Starbucks and looking at the Christmas lights around town,
enjoying family traditions and creating more!

Christmas is truly my most favorite holiday and even though I was very spoiled...
Without a doubt my most precious and sacred gifts are
my faith, my two beautiful boys,
my love, and my family and friends!

Until next year Christmas!
(Here are a few pictures I snapped from our Christmas Day)

My Grandma and 6 of her great grand children

 MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Our Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve this year was so nice...
we did a few different things that we hope to make into yearly traditions.
We celebrated Christmas with the Hofstetters on the 23rd
and with the Boland clan on Christmas day...
So that left the 24th open to relax a bit and spend some time with
 "just the four of us"...

This is what our "eve" looked like...
After some visitors left (See previous blog)...
and the picture of Santa leaving our house below...
I helped the boys open a gift under the tree...
Yup new Christmas PJ's...
Nothing better then two cute cuddle bugs in Christmas snowman PJ's

Next we bundled up the boys and headed down to Victoria park
to see the Christmas lights and decorations...
Ethan especially loved the Christmas train, and sitting on Santa's sleigh...
As a little girl I remember being in awe of the manger scene
my favorite was seeing the baby Jesus lying in the manger...
The scene has since been updated and the doll no longer looks as real as it use too...
But it still brought back some warm memories for me...
Anyone who knew me as a young girl knows that I was obsessed with babies...
You could always find me holding or playing with a baby...
Parents loved me I am sure...
While looking at the manger scene this year it was
strange to reflect and see how far I have come...
From a little girl with dreams of one day having a baby of my very own to
a happy mother and wife with two amazing, beautiful baby boys...
I am beyond blessed and eternally grateful for my fortune!

After some fun at the park we came home...
We read the nativity pop up story with Ethan,
Set out a snack for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph...
Then it was off to bed for Ethan...
Then Nate and I watched a Christmas movie (The Holiday)
with the dogs, a fire and warm blankets,
Toddy stayed up running around the house and playing with toys
burning up the last bit of energy he could muster...
It was so nice to have some down time on Christmas Eve,
and rejuvenate before all the excitement started the next day!

Next year we hope to do the same thing!
